WHY I MAKE THESE

I've loved working with wood since school, and when I retired I turned that lifelong passion into Woodpecker Gifts — something my wife Louise and I began together. Our ethos was that we wanted to use wood to turn into things people wanted in their home. We coined the phrase ‘from tree to treasure’ to reflect that approach. Every piece is designed, hand-painted and assembled by me, here in Britain: warm, glowing mood lights, from my tealight holders and the Tree of Life to a whole collection of British icons. Louise sadly passed in 2025, but the care she brought to it lives on in everything I make — and in the simple hope that one of my lights helps turn a house into a home.

Landmark and transport mood lights - the telephone box, the London Bus, London Taxi and more. Characterful, limited-run, made to give.

Red Telephone Box
£45.00

Bring a little piece of Britain home. Our Red Telephone Box mood light captures the most familiar icon on the British street — hand-painted in classic post-box red, with a Union flag on the roof. Open the little door and press the light inside, and a soft, warm-white glow spills through its windows: characterful by day, calming by night, and a conversation piece either way.

Laser-cut and hand-assembled from quality MDF and finished with water-based paints, each one is made in our workshop in small, limited runs.

London Bus
£35.00

There's something about the old London bus — the deep red, the open platform at the back, the sense that you could just hop on. My London Bus mood light brings a little of that feeling home.

It's modelled on the traditional red double-decker of the 1950s and 60s, right down to the open step-on platform at the rear. Switch it on and it comes to life from within: every window glows, along with the LONDON nameplate and the route number, and two Union-flag hearts set either side of the name between the decks. It's an impression of a London icon rather than a replica — warm, characterful and unmistakably British.

Each one is laser-cut, hand-painted and assembled by me here in Britain. I paint every board before I cut it, so there are no scorched edges — just clean colour and a finish made to be looked at. Because it's all done by hand in small runs, no two are ever quite identical.

The light is a soft, warm white that you can dim to suit the room — bright enough to be a centrepiece, gentle enough to glow quietly of an evening. It runs from a standard 5V USB (lead around 1.5m), so it plugs into any USB port or charger, just like charging a phone.

It makes a lovely gift for anyone with a soft spot for London — someone who's moved away, a student missing home, or a family member who once drove the buses themselves. Equally, it's a quiet conversation piece for a shelf, a window sill or a desk.

For indoor use. Wipe clean with a dry cloth. USB mains adapter not included — any standard USB port or phone charger will do.

London Taxi
£35.00

There's no mistaking a London black cab. My London Taxi mood light captures that instantly-recognisable shape — the classic cab of the 1950s, 60s and 70s — and lights it from within.

Switch it on and the little "TAXI" sign glows amber above the windscreen, just as it would when a cab is free for hire, with the indicators picking up the same warm glow. Everything else — the windscreen, the radiator grille, the bonnet, the bumper and the LONDON number plate — shines a soft warm white. It's an impression of a London icon rather than a replica, full of the character of the real thing.

Each one is laser-cut, hand-painted and assembled by me here in Britain. I paint every board before I cut it, so there are no scorched edges — just clean colour and a finish made to be looked at. Because it's all done by hand in small runs, no two are ever quite identical.

The light is dimmable warm white — set it bright as a centrepiece or low for a quiet evening glow, with the amber "for hire" sign adding a wink of character. It runs from a standard 5V USB (lead around 1.5m), so it plugs into any USB port or charger.

It's a lovely gift for anyone with a connection to London — a family member who once drove a black cab, a visitor remembering their first ride across the city, or simply someone who loves a little piece of London on the shelf. A proper conversation piece.

For indoor use. Wipe clean with a dry cloth. USB mains adapter not included — any standard USB port or phone charger will do.

Elizabeth Tower (Big Ben)
£55.00

Few silhouettes say "London" quite like the Elizabeth Tower — the clock tower beside the Houses of Parliament, home to the great bell the world knows as Big Ben. My Elizabeth Tower brings that landmark, and all its sense of occasion, onto your shelf or table.

It's an original Woodpecker Gifts design — an impression of the tower rather than an exact replica — capturing the proportions and spirit of one of Britain's most recognisable landmarks.

In 2012 the tower was renamed in the Queen's honour to mark her Diamond Jubilee. As a quiet tribute, the clock faces on mine are set to 3:10 — the time of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's passing on 8 September 2022. A small, respectful nod to the monarch the tower is named for.

It glows a soft, warm white — inviting rather than harsh. To turn it on or off, the tower and base gently separate so you simply touch the light; no fiddly switches. The spire even reverses neatly into the tower for safe, knock-free transport and storage.

Each one is laser-cut, hand-painted and assembled by me here in Britain, painted before it's cut so the edges stay clean. Made by hand in small runs, no two are ever quite identical.

It runs from a standard 5V USB, so it plugs into any USB port — or run it from a phone power bank and it removes cable clutter: a discreet, glowing centrepiece. That makes it a favourite for New Year's Eve, when all eyes turn to the chimes of Big Ben. Don’t leave it late to order yours as runs are limited.

A wonderful gift for anyone who loves London and Britain — and a table centrepiece with real presence.

For indoor use. Wipe clean with a dry cloth. USB mains adapter not included — any standard USB port, charger or power bank will do.
